The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) says its
partnership with hospitals throughout Louisiana has helped achieve its
goal of increasing organ donation registration by 10 percent this year.
The Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign, a partnership between LOPA
and various hospitals throughout the state, added 160,676 people to the
Donate Life Louisiana Registry, reaching the goal of a 10 percent
increase in potential donors by the end of 2009. The registry includes
more than 1.77 million Louisiana residents who want to donate their
organs and tissue for transplantations at the time of their death.
Bill Holman, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge
Medical Center, has issued a challenge to Louisiana hospitals to
register an additional 40,000 people by the end of the year. More than
55 hospitals in Louisiana already are participating in the campaign. To
