Maafa Commemoration
The daylong commemoration of the Maafa, the word for "great tragedy" referring to the transatlantic slave trade, features a procession through Treme, French Quarter and Algiers Point, breakfast and entertainment at 11 a.m. at Ashe Cultural Arts Center (1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.) and a health fair.
