At the Marigny Brasserie (640 Frenchmen St., 945-4472; www.marignybrasserie.com), those who wear suits and ties find a comfortable home alongside fans of jeans and polo shirts.

  Owner Roland Adams says his Faubourg Marigny restaurant is classy yet laid back, a place where both tourists and locals come for a taste of New Orleans cuisine. Dishes include appetizers like hot-and-spicy crawfish beignets, and entrees include the popular crab-stuffed proscuitto-wrapped shrimp.

  Marigny Brasserie's bar menu includes cocktails such as the strawberry mojito and the Royal Lemon Drop, as well as beer selections that include everyday favorites like Bud Light and Corona.

  The restaurant's environment lends itself to a best-of-both-worlds theme. Visitors can choose to eat in the dining room, at the bar or on the patio, and enjoy a meal accompanied by soft jazz playing in the background. Sunday's jazz brunch, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., features live music from The Pfister Sisters and other groups.

  This environment evolved after a change in direction, Adams says. The Marigny Brasserie started off as Cafe Marigny, a coffee shop on Royal Street that Adams decided to expand to a Frenchmen Street restaurant that would serve a variety of dishes and have a full bar. Marigny Brasserie opened in 2002.

  Adams tries to discourage people from thinking the restaurant is an eatery that only attracts a serious crowd, he says.

  "It's a fun place," he says. "It's not just a place where you go eat; it's a place where you socialize."
