  Mizado Cocina, a restaurant offering a contemporary American take on Mexican and Latin American dishes, opened at 5080 Pontchartrain Blvd. (504-885-555; www.mizadococina.com), where City Park Avenue becomes Metairie Road, on the site of the long-shuttered Semolina. The menu includes a long list of tacos, ceviches, grilled fish, chicken and steak, salads and more. Gourmet tacos (two for $10) include the Pato (Peking duck confit with caramelized onion and pineapple-melon salsa), Puerco (smoked pork belly with ponzu apples, pickled vegetables and habanero salsa) and Venera (scallops with grilled onion, cabbage, tomato, bacon, Salvadoran cream, melon and salsa). Ceviches are available with salmon, tuna and Gulf shrimp. Guacamoles are prepared tableside, and guacamole India incorporates avocado, banana and date and cashew chutney.

  Mizado Cocina is the work of the restaurant group Taste Buds, run by Gary Darling, Hans Limburg and Greg Reggio. The group opened the original Semolina chain and Zea Rotisserie Grill (www.zearestaurants.com).

  Dinner is 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Valet parking is available.
