Mother's Day at Audubon Zoo

Soul queen Irma Thomas marks her 25th anniversary appearance at the Audubon Zoo's annual Mother's Day celebration. Thomas entertains moms and families with an afternoon concert (2:30 p.m.-4 p.m.), with Ingrid Lucia and the Flying Neutrinos opening (12:30 p.m.-2 p.m.). This year, the zoo highlights the work of Missing Orangutan Mothers (M.O.M.), an organization that seeks to preserve orangutan populations where their habitats are being deforested due to rising demand for palm oil. Orangutan babies learn survival skills from their mothers and are particularly at risk when orphaned or separated from their kin. The concert is free with regular zoo admission. Mothers get into the zoo free. Tickets $12.50 adults, $9.50 seniors, $7.50 children. — Will Coviello
