Hazard County Girls CD-release party

New Orleans' favorite trio of violent rag dolls has a new spawn -- Divine Armor, self-released last week, is their second full-length album. The Girls' grinding swamp-metal hearkens back to days of yore when bands had more than a Keith Richards rooster shag to whip around onstage. The band slogs relentlessly forward on tracks like the fuzzed-out, aptly-titled "Doom," although tracks like the Siouxsie Sioux-esque "Red Light" and the creepy toy piano on "Ceremony II" show they may have lightened their assault, if only slightly. Their take on the traditional "Knoxville Girl," (retitled "Knoxville Boy") adds plenty of menace to the sociopath-narrated murder ballad. Long-term fans need not fear -- the majority of the record still sounds like it was written and played by angry zombies marching to war through a swamp, armed only with guitars. Cover $8. -- Alison Fensterstock 10 p.m. Fri., May 12
