The cover of Middle Cyclone (Anti-) has a sword-drawn Case perched atop a 1970s Mercury Cougar. It's an anachronistic joke, and a good one. But with the March release, the force-of-nature singer and sometime New Pornographer slays the specter of indie-pop pal Carl Newman, churning out timeless, natural alt-country anthems like she's punching a clock.
