North RampART Festival

Though it runs between two historically rich districts in the city, North Rampart Street isn't known as one of the city's grander boulevards. It touches Congo Square, Armstrong Park, the historic recording site of Cosimo Matassa's J&M Studios, a handful of good restaurants, and still it's an unsung thoroughfare. The North RampART Festival brings some luster to the street with food, music, art and a kids area along a blocked-off pedestrian promenade in front of Armstrong Park. There will be performances by Walter "Wolfman" Washington (pictured), the Treme Brass Band, Sunpie Barnes & The Louisiana Sunspots, Ivoire Spectacle featuring Seguenon Kone, the New Orleans Young Traditional Brass Band and others. The event is supported in part by the Louisiana Main to Main program, meant to spur economic development and revitalize selected cultural districts around the state. Visit the Web site for more information. Free admission. — Anna Marschalk-Burns
