This Bud's for You
One of the dining pleasures of New Orleans is that with so many long-standing local favorites, you don't necessarily have to stick with fast-food chains. Serving up burgers and all the trimmings faster, cheaper and better is a unique New Orleans institution -- Bud's Broiler. With locations across the city illustrating its popularity, Bud's can quench even the strongest appetite.

Variations on the burger (all cooked on a charcoal grill -- what a refreshing concept!) are done by number, ranging from the simple No. 1 with standards of tomato, lettuce, onion to the No. 4 with your choice of their housemade hickory sauce or chili and onions. Non-burger favorites include the smoked sausage and broiled fish sandwiches. And you can't go wrong with a fruit pie and milkshake for dessert.

Take your pick of the following locations: 500 City Park Ave. 486-2559; 605 Lapalco Blvd., Gretna, 393-8160; 2008 Clearview Pkwy., Metairie, 889-2837; 2338 Banks St. 821-3022; 2800 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Kenner, 466-0026; 3001 Ormond Blvd., Destrehan (985) 725-1116; 3151 Calhoun St. 861-0906; 4101 Jefferson Hwy., Jefferson, 837-9419; 5100 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, 348-0492; 6325 Elysian Fields Ave. 282-6696; 9327 Jefferson Hwy., River Ridge, 738-2452. -- Frank Etheridge
