On the Markette
Marianne Angeli Rodriguez has been an artist as long as she can remember. Always an avid painter, Rodriguez realized her love for illustration when she attended New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.
Although she majored in fashion design, the art and drawing courses captivated Rodriguez the most. In June 2012 she moved to New Orleans, where she feels inspired by the artistic expression that surrounds her. This past winter, Rodriguez launched her Internet-based business Markette (www.markettenola.com).
"It's a symbiotic relationship between my passion for illustration and my passion for fashion design," Rodriguez says.
Markette provides a number of different creative services, including fashion illustration, custom pieces, styling and creative direction. Customers can commission illustrations for their books, blogs or personal use. Rodriguez says her illustrations are popular among brides who want to capture their bridal experience in a more stylish way.
This month, Rodriguez opens an online shop where customers can purchase printed canvas totes, paper goods, prints, and her original artwork. — POLLY SAWABINI
