Post Secret vs. Found

A father tells his daughter that the pie she baked for him sucks. A woman doesn't tell her grandmother how to change her voicemail so that she can continue to listen to her dead grandfather's voice. A hapless CIA agent repeatedly loses his gun. A lot of people break up. These are the unsettling secrets revealed by Post Secret and Found Magazine. Frank Warren's Post Secret (www.postsecret.com) is an art project/Web site/book series in which postcards are left in public places with instructions for the finder to anonymously write their secrets on the cards, decorate them and send them back. Davy Rothbart's Found Magazine (www.foundmagazine.com) is a series of books and zines featuring found letters, scribbles, notes, doodles and photos that are sent in by readers. Both projects strip back the thin veil of confidentiality that exists between people, revealing hilarious, sad, angry, hurt, scared and until-now-private emotions. The Post Secret vs. Found tour is a 65-city monster featuring readings of finds and secrets and discussions by Rothbart (pictured) and Warren. Proceeds benefit The Neighborhood Story Project and Hopeline suicide prevention hotline. Tickets $10. — Ethan Clark
