The Congo Square Rhythms Festival celebrates the musical connections established through the African diaspora through the Caribbean and Gulf South. The music and performance lineup includes Bamboula 2000, Cuban jazz band OTRA, Moyuba, Stooges Brass Band, N'Kafu African Dance, Kumbuka African Dance Collective and others. Visiting headliners include Cuban percussionist/singer Pedrito Martinez and Brooklyn-based bhangra funk band Red Baraat (pictured). Alfred "Uganda" Roberts leads an all-star band in a performance celebrating his 70th birthday. There also is a Mardi Gras Indian battle, in which three tribes compare feathers. The free festival is sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation. — Will Coviello
