A better question is why not?
Let me paint a familiar picture for you: You’ve been dying to eat at this restaurant and have heard great things about the chef. You tell your friends you want to go. But then, Sally, the birthday diva, suggests this other restaurant she’s been dying to try so you go there instead. Before you know it, you’ve got a laundry list of New Orleans restaurants to try and ain’t nobody got time (or $$) for dat. It’s a tough life living in New Orleans, but someone’s gotta do it.
Well, New Orleanians, Gambit understands your pain (do you have any idea what compiling four Restaurant Guides a year does to a person?!) and we want to help. We want you to keep your friendships and put an end to the “but-you-got-to-pick-the-restaurant-last-time!” bickering. It’s called the Emerging Chefs Challenge and it’s an entire night devoted to trying 12 (you read that right, twelve) restaurants all in one night for only $45.
That’s right. Loosen your belt and open your mind to the wonders of 12 small plates, prepared by none other than New Orleans greatest up-and-coming culinary talents. All for less than you’d probably spend on a bottle of wine at dinner with friends (unless, of course, you’re boxed wine people which is OK too, we won’t tell).
Here’s how the evening goes down: You turn down your co-workers lunch invitations in preparation for the night you’re about to embark on. You show up to The Cannery in Mid-City. And you eat. And eat. And eat some more. Somewhere in there you’ll also drink (oh, did we forget to mention the two free drinks?). You’ll try all 12 of the chefs dishes (or as many as you possibly can…see suggestion one). You vote for your favorite. Whichever chef gets the most votes wins the “Emerging Chef” title & $1,000. You leave with a full stomach, restaurants checked off your list, and memories of a night well spent.
So, what are you waiting for? Gather your friends, get your tickets and bon appétit!
