Queens Over Kings

Best known as Silkworm for Grammy Award-winning hip-hop jazz cats Digable Planets, the mixologist is a formidable DJ and producer in his own right as King Britt. He's manned the boards for tracks by Tori Amos, Macy Gray and Solange, among others. He's been trusted to remix legends like Miles Davis and hired to score Michael Mann's Miami Vice reboot. His 2005 remixes of New Orleans outsider blues artist and "bride of Christ" Gertrude Morgan lean on his signature backbone of hard funk and jazz-fusion. As a student and pioneer of 1980s house music, Britt returns to his formative years with an April release, Intricate Beauty (Nervous Records), a more conventional dance album highlighting his soul roots pulled up by pitter-pat bass beats and minimal synths. Joining the Queens Over Kings: A Mardi Gras Valentine performance are burlesque troupe Fleur de Tease (which also has a 7 p.m. show) and fellow turntablist DJ Quickie Mart. Tickets $20. — Alex Woodward
