"I join (Texas Sen.) Ted Cruz in calling for the end of the IRS. Let's replace it with something apolitical that does not have a mandate to enforce Obamacare. Our privacy and political freedoms should not be sacrificed." — Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, in a statement June 4. Cassidy has announced his intention to run against U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu next year.
As to what that "something apolitical" might be that would replace the Internal Revenue Service, Cassidy did not say, but Cruz has expressed support for a sort-of-flat tax (with deductions for charity and mortgages) that could be filled out "on a postcard."
