Three U.S. reps from Louisiana ranked 'most conservative'

National Journal ranked the most liberal and conservative members of the U.S. House of Representatives last week, and it was no surprise that Louisiana reps didn't even place in the liberal Top 10. A bit more surprising: Louisiana had three of the Top 10 "Most Conservative" House members — more than any other state.

Former U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry (a Tea Party favorite who was bounced in a December runoff against U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, to represent the recently redrawn Third District) placed fourth, while Rep. John Fleming, R-Minden, and Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Metairie, tied for fifth.

Even as he departed Washington, Landry left the door open for a possible challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu in 2014, while Fleming told Shreveport TV station KTBS last week that he also was mulling a bid for Landrieu's seat. Fleming said he had lots of policy differences with Louisiana's senior senator, but the main one was the Affordable Care Act. Landrieu also is cosponsoring a plan to tax online purchases (see "Attention online shoppers" above), and Fleming opposes that idea, too. — Kevin Allman
