Saint Alice of Chattahoochee

The path to sainthood is supposed to be marked by miracles. Making it in the world of stand-up comedy may or may not qualify, but it has spawned the one-woman show Saint Alice of Chattahoochee by Tulane alum, comic and actress Alice Johnson. The journey to sainthood begins with a 9-year-old girl in southern Georgia who's trying to break into community theater and lip synch her way to the top. Besides Alice, Johnson plays more than 30 other characters including directors, child beauty pageant queens, religious fanatics and other less than supportive folks who seem to thwart her at every would-be star turn. Alice soon finds her greater calling in healing the unrecognized and overlooked artists of the world. Johnson debuted the show in Los Angeles. She is a veteran performer with Actors Theater of Louisville and has screen credits on Sex and the City as well as short- and feature-length films. Proceeds from these shows benefit Tulane University. Tickets $12 general admission, $9 faculty/staff, $7.50 students/seniors. -- Will Coviello
