All the news that doesn't fit

  • State Rep. John Bel Edwards, D-Amite, told Baton Rouge public radio station WKRF-FM that he intends to run for governor in 2015. Edwards is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, and his announcement seems to shoot down any chance of a rerun of the gubernatorial election of 2011, in which the Democrats failed to field an official candidate. That year, Tara Hollis, a teacher from north Louisiana, was Gov. Bobby Jindal's main challenger, and yet the state Democratic party never formally lined up behind her ...

In English, "hotel seating" means no one has his or her own desk ...

  • The New Orleans City Council last Thursday (Feb. 21) approved amendments to the post-Katrina "Lot Next Door" initiative, thereby easing a waiting list of more than 700 potential lot buyers. New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) Executive Director Jeff Hebert said the program encourages property owners to purchase neighboring, city-owned empty lots at reduced rates. NORA's next auction is March 23 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center/ More than 130 properties will be available. ... — Kevin Allman & Alex Woodward
