Sean O'Meallie: Me vs. the Universe: Guns Smiles Bread and Balloons
Sean O'Meallie's past work as a toy-maker is evident in his brightly colored and whimsical wooden sculptures. The crazy patterns and clown-like shapes of L'Arsenal de Joie (pictured) make guns fanciful and harmless. Smile Gum reduces a smile to a minimalist outline of lips but retains the radiance of the expression and makes it silly with a pink wad of gum. A New Orleans native, O'Meallie has spent the last two decades in Colorado, where he began crafting wooden sculptures. Recently, his work Cowboy Pajamas was fabricated into a 20-foot-tall public installation in downtown Denver. — Will Coviello
