Acme Oyster House (724 Iberville St., 522-5973;, which started in the French Quarter in 1910, has reopened after undergoing renovations — and Hurricane Katrina. The renovations include improved seating and a larger dining area. Acme Oyster House also has locations in Metairie (3000 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 309-4056) and Covington (519 E. Boston Street, Covington, 898-0667).

Ballin's Ltd. (721 Dante St., 866-4367) is holding a special trunk show of apparel by Vitamin on Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11, during regular store hours. Vitamin's women's clothing line features wonderful colors and fabrics designed into relaxed but sophisticated styles.

All fall and winter upscale women's consignment apparel — including designer dresses, casual wear, ball gowns, cocktails dresses, coats, furs and shoes — has been drastically reduced during a huge sale at Encore Shop (7814 Maple St., 861-9028). Plus, check out the new inventory of spring and summer fashion items. Proceeds benefit musicians of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mild Red (701 Dante St., Suite C, 866-8242) is making room for new inventory with a basket of $5 fashion items, including skirts, tops and more, and a rack of $10 and $15 tops and bottoms.

Silk Road Collection (3714 Magazine St., 894-8540; has received a new shipment of hand-selected antique furniture from Asia, including a 200-year-old carved elm altar from the Shanxi Province of China, a century-old elm buffet (with the original brass hardware) that includes five drawers and a set of doors from Tianjin, China, plus much more.

Victoria's Secret (3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Lakeside Shopping Center, Metairie, 834-2720; is now carrying Principessa Beauty products, which are designed to be uber pampering and indulgent. Italian for "princess," Principessa was developed by Trish Lucarino and has become a new favorite of Hollywood stars and recently was included in goody bags at the Grammy VIP after-party. Some products include Bacio Me Lip Balm, Dolce Dreams Whipped Body Lotion and Amore Afterglow Salt Buff.

Whole Foods Market Arabella Station (5600 Magazine St., 899-9119; this week will donate 3 percent of its sales on Wednesday, March 8, to the Restore or Retreat charity. The store will choose a different nonprofit group to receive the 3 percent donation every Wednesday through April 19.
