On Dec. 28, 16 months after Hurricane Katrina, United Bank and Trust (2714 Canal St., 827-0060) became the first bank lobby to reopen with full-service banking on Canal Street. Located at the corner of Broad and Canal streets, the UBT bank building, which flooded during the storm, now has a fully renovated lobby. In addition, the 16-year-old minority-owned banking institution is now bilingual, offering all services in both English and Spanish.
