Shopping News

"Because children shouldn't have to sleep on the floor." That's the mantra at Emergency Interiors' New Orleans Furniture Bank (3726 Dauphine St.), a place where families who are rebuilding their lives and their homes can go to purchase 10 pieces of used furniture for a flat fee of $350 or $20-$35 per piece. That money is charged to cover the cost of transporting and storing the furniture that comes from hotels, universities, armed services and manufacturers. Emergency Interiors is a nonprofit organization. For more information, visit the furniture bank Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-noon, call (201) 280-7404 or visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/emergencyinteriors.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Symphony Volunteers Inc. will host an end-of-season fundraising sale at the Encore Shop (7814 Maple St, 861-9028). There will be drastically reduced w0men's winter items, including casual and dress wear, cocktail and full-length gowns, coats, furs, shoes and accessories, as well as new upscale boutique closeout items — with many famous designers represented. All proceeds benefit the musicians of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Kenner boutique Envy (817 W. Esplanade Ave. Suite E, Kenner, 464-5390) will soon have a sister store — a slightly older, more sophisticated sister — called Miche (705 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner, 464-8986) just a few blocks away. Opening for business on Thursday, Feb. 14, Miche will feature clothing, shoes and accessories that can take you from day to night in style.

Send information about trunk shows, new product lines, sales and in-store events to Kara Nelson at karan@gambitweekly.com, call 483-3107, or fax 483-3116. Information should be received 10 days prior to publication.
