The Gambit-affiliated Foundation for Entertainment, Development and Education announced special award recipients and nominees for theater performances in 2014. Winners of awards for performances, design and directing will be announced at the 27th annual Big Easy Theater Awards at Harrah's New Orleans March 30.

There are awards for dramas, comedies and musicals, and a handful of shows collected more than six nominations each. Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts amassed nine nominations for Young Frankenstein and six for Shrek The Musical. The NOLA Project collected eight nominations for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, seven for its production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night; or, What You Will, six for Peter McElligott's whimsical adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, performed in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, and five for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. See 'Em on Stage: A Production Company has made a name for itself producing humorous, blood-splattering zombie and horror musicals, but it drew seven nominations for Zanna, Don't!, a musical about high school romance in an inverted world where homosexuality is the norm. Goat in the Road productions drew six nominations for Numb, its original production about the early medical use of anesthesia.

Cecile Monteyne is nominated for two individual awards, Best Actress in a Drama for her role as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for playing Olivia in Twelfth Night; or, What You Will. She also starred in The NOLA Project's Shiner and a remount of the one-woman show La Concierge Solitaire. She also performs improv comedy. Monteyne will be honored as Entertainer of the Year.

The Big Easy Awards will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Linda Fried. In her 50-year career in local theater, she has sung and danced on stage and, in the past 15 years, focused on costume design. She is nominated for Best Costume Design for Shrek The Musical.

For 30 years, the Patchwork Players have presented classic children's tales to young audiences — for two decades at Tulane University and more recently at Rivertown Theaters. The company will receive a Special Recognition Award.

Chris Lane and Trixie Minx will host the Big Easy Theater Awards gala at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 30 at Harrah's Theatre. General admission tickets are $125 and VIP admission is $150. For information or reservations, contact Jon Broder at (504) 483-3129.
