Herman's House chronicles the unlikely friendship between Jackie Sumell, a high-strung politically engaged New York artist and Herman Wallace, a convicted murderer in his 70s who has spent most of the last 40 years in solitary confinement at Angola State Penitentiary in Louisiana.Believing Wallace can only achieve freedom by dreaming of it, Sumell asks Wallace to describe his "dream house." She creates a scale model of Wallace's cell and the house he describes. The art installation called "The House That Herman Built," would appear in 12 galleries in five different countries.
