St. Patrick's Day

New Orleans will go green this weekend, but in the St. Paddy's Day rather than the environmentally conscious way. Though many parades toss green cabbages, potatoes and carrots, there also will be copious amounts of plastic beads, synthetic flowers and other goodies. And it's not biodiesel, but many marchers will test the mileage capacities of green beer and other alternative fuels. Among the neighborhood parades are Monaghan's French Quarter Parade (5:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, begins at Molly's at the Market, 1107 Decatur St.; www.mollysatthemarket.net), the Irish Channel Parade (12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, Garden District; www.irishchannelno.org), the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Metairie (noon Sunday, March 16, Metairie Road, Metairie) and the Downtown Irish Club Parade (6:30 p.m. Monday, March 17, begins at Piety and Burgundy streets and marches to the French Quarter). — Will Coviello
