Swingin' For the Stars

Southern Rep celebrates its 20th anniversary with a benefit gala. Originally created to feature plays about the South and by Southern authors, Southern Rep has expanded its mission in recent years under the direction of Ryan Rilette. A season of works now typically includes premieres, plays by local authors as well as the newest contemporary works. Since Katrina, Southern Rep has staged premieres including Callie's Tally, Yuletide by Jim Fitzmorris and is set to produce new works like John Biguenet's Rising Waters and Macbeth at the Gates. The gala will feature a four-course reception dinner in the elegant upstairs of Muriel's. Performances and entertainment will be provided by Dr. Michael White (pictured) and his quartet, plus popular local performers Becky Allen, Troi Bechet, Sean Patterson, Gary Rucker and Diana Boylston. There will also be a silent auction. Tickets $200. -- Will Coviello
