5 New Orleans restaurants offering Thanksgiving alternatives

For those who don't wish to cook for Thanksgiving, here are five restaurants offering dining options, including classic and non-traditional Thanksgiving meals, kid's menus and takeout. In all cases, diners are encouraged to call ahead and make reservations.

• Compere Lapin (535 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-599-2119; www.comperelapin.com)
Top Chef New Orleans runner-up Nina Compton's Warehouse District restaurant offers a four-course meal from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $65 per person. Diners choose from several first, main, side and dessert dishes including oyster pan stew with potato gnocchi and gremolata, roasted turkey leg with butternut squash and Brussels sprouts, pumpkin agnolotti and mustard green pesto, jerk sweet potatoes and fall fruit compote, among others. Diners can also order a la carte.

• Kingfish (337 Chartres St., 504-598-5005; www.kingfish- neworleans.com)
The French Quarter Creole bistro serves a four-course menu for $55. It features a bowl of smoked turkey gumbo with wild rice, shaved fennel and Arkansas apple salad and a choice of sassafras-glazed ham or sugarcane-smoked turkey. For dessert, there's sweet potato bread pudding or pecan pie.

• Ralph's on the Park (900 City Park Ave., 504-488-1000; www.ralphsonthepark.com)
The $52 three-course menu at Ralph Brennan's restaurant includes expansive menu options. Guests can choose three of 20 dishes, many of which stray from traditional Thanksgiving food. Menu items include blue crab beignets with chili-garlic creme fraiche, seared duck breast with satsuma gastrique, dirty rice and baby green beans and kumquat chutney, slow-cooked turkey with oyster dressing and tiramisu bread pudding. A kid's menu costs $21.

• Tujague's (823 Decatur St., 504-525-8676; www.tujaguesrestaurant.com)
There's no turkey, but the French Quarter institution serves a special four-course meal for $54.99 (a kid's menu is priced at $19.99). Classic dishes from the restaurant's archive include shrimp remoulade salad, sweet potato and crabmeat bisque, and a choice of grilled filet mignon with garlic bordelaise or grilled airline chicken breast topped with artichoke caper butter. For dessert, there's Tujague's house bread pudding with praline sauce.

• Willa Jean (611 O'Keefe Ave., 504-509-7334; www.willajean.com)
There's no dine-in service at the Besh Restaurant Group newcomer, but takeout options include sides and desserts such as broccoli or sweet potato casserole, baked beans, cornbread stuffing, baked beans and cranberry sauce, among others. There are eight pies, including a pumpkin version with caramelized chocolate, pear and sour cherry and banana cream. Takeout is available from 7 a.m. to noon Thanksgiving Day and from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 25. — HELEN FREUND
