Regent Cabana and Fritz Wagner
of the University of New Orleans College of Urban and Public Affairs won a $500,000, four-year federal grant to fund eight graduate student and faculty exchanges among universities from Canada to Mexico for comparative research on urban development issues. Cabana directs the international program. Wagner is the principal investigator for the grant.
Revius Ortique ,
Mayor Marc Morial's chairman of the New Orleans Aviation Board, refuses to say why he blasted airport director Roy Williams for cooperating with the transition team of Mayor-elect Ray Nagin. In a letter, Ortique said Williams should choose between his job and providing public information to the incoming mayor. After a local uproar, Ortique now says he is satisfied that there was no conflict of interest.
Former Gov. Dave Treen ,
along with his brother and campaign treasurer John Treen, was fined $250 last week by the Federal Election Commission for late filings of 2000 campaign finance reports from a congressional race won by David Vitter. Treen is currently pondering another run for governor.
