The
local U.S. Marshals Service
recently completed
its first annual donation drive to benefit the Ozanam Inn, which has served
homeless people since 1955. The U.S. Marshals Office downtown collected more
than 14 large boxes of women's clothing, 14 boxes of men's clothing, three boxes
of shoes, two boxes of toys and other items. The Marshals Office says this is
the first of what will be a yearly donation drive.
The Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education
,
the nonprofit public-education partner
of the Louisiana State Bar Association, will receive the "2002 Outstanding Law
Day Activities Award" from the American Bar Association. The award, to be presented
at the ABA's mid-year conference in Seattle this February, recognizes the LCE's
2002 Law Day Youth Summit held in May. The event invited students and teachers
from across Louisiana to learn about the legal system.
Louisiana
got the lowest possible ratings in an annual report card of states' economic
development indicators. It earned Fs in the main categories of Performance,
Business Vitality and Development Capacity, and also in several sub-categories.
The study by the nonprofit Corporation for Enterprise Development said Louisiana

skills, schools, technology and other fundamentals.
