Orleans' public television station, has won two regional Emmy awards for its
critically acclaimed documentary Treasures of the Tchefuncte. The National
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Suncoast chapter -- which covers TV
markets in Southern states and Puerto Rico -- honored the film in the categories
of Documentary Programs and Audio Craft.
Norman
Kerth,
a
retired managing partner with the New Orleans branch of the international financial
consulting firm Deloitte Touche Tomatsu, has won the firm's national Community
Impact Award, which honors outstanding community-service leaders. The award
comes with a $5,000 prize to a charity of the recipient's choice; Kerth selected
the Catholic Foundation for the Archbishop's Community Appeal.
Tree
Troopers,
a
Metairie-based program that helps protect urban trees from construction, disease
and other dangers, recently graduated its first class of 57 trained volunteers.
Tom Campbell, a state urban forester, and local tree activist Carey Hammett
co-founded the program, the first of its kind in Louisiana.
