The Dead Weather

Grab brunch with Jack White and there's a good chance you'll find yourself in a band with him. The Johnny Deppish White Stripes singer/guitarist backed up ladyfriend Loretta Lynn on 2004's Van Lear Rose; formed the Raconteurs with pal Brendan Benson in 2005; and founded Dead Weather on a whim and obvious chemistry with Alison Mosshart, Joan Jettish Kills singer/guitarist or White sans Y chromosome. The Nashville outfit's shotgun wedding included meeting in January, performing in March and debuting with Horehound (Third Man) in July. Balancing riffs and rests, the album feels like a well-executed spoof of a headbangers ball, Mosshart's black pillow talk ("Treat me like your mother") poured onto White's blues-guitar whine — except with the latter on skins, it's coming from Dean Fertita, axeman for Queens of the Stone Age. Give them credit for being in on the joke: The first video has the cross-gender clones emptying AK-47s at each other in an Edward Scissorhands suburb. At this rate, they'll be confused for siblings in no time. Imaad Wasif opens. Tickets $28.50. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
