The Dining Room

The Dining Room is the perfect setting for playwright A.R. Gurney to chew over the decline of the northeastern white Anglo-Saxon Protestant. We watch as a flock of more than 50 characters migrate into and out of a dining room set for meals, parties and events, which taken together condense several post-World War II generations worth of upper middle-class American life's daily rituals, tribulations and changes into a pastiche of a day. The matters are great and small as a decline in table manners and etiquette humorously suggest much greater social changes beyond the dining room walls. Stocker Fontelieu directs Chelle Ambrose, Helen Blanke, Leon Contavesprie, Jimmy Murphy, Arvilla Miller Riddick, Michael Sullivan and Andrea Watson. Tickets $16 adults, $14 students/seniors/children. -- Will Coviello
