The Great Catsby: A "Roaring" 20s Tribute to 120 years of the LA/SPCA

F. Scott Fitzgerald's fictional Long Island hideaway of West Egg comes to life on the West Bank for the LA/SPCA's annual Howling Success fundraiser "The Great Catsby." Celebrating 120 years in New Orleans, the roaring-'20s-themed event lets the fur fly with an extravagant soiree complete with croquet and mint juleps on the front lawn and craps, blackjack and roulette in the "Gin Room." Guests can revel in Prohibition-era glitz and gluttony with food and drink from more than 40 New Orleans restaurants. Deacon John (pictured) and the Ivories perform at the main event, and Jeremy Davenport kicks off the patron party. Deacon John's Pomeranian, Bebe, will lead a dressed-to-the-nines canine second line of alumni shelter pets. There will also be a Charleston dance contest, antique cars on display, and live and silent auctions hosted by WWL-TV anchor Eric Paulsen. Celebrity guests include Bryan Batt of AMC's Mad Men, Gautreau's chef Sue Zemanick, named one of Food & Wine's top new chefs of 2008, and local news personalities including CNN meteorologist Rob Marciano. The LA/SPCA opened the 10-acre Dorothy Dorsett Brown Campus in May 2007, replacing the Japonica Street facility, which was shuttered after Hurricane Katrina. Call 762-3314 for reservations. Tickets $100. — Alex Woodward
