The Misfits with Scott H. Biram

9 p.m. Mon., Dec. 1

House of Blues, 225 Decatur St., 310-4999;

Horror punks the Misfists have been making every day a particularly loud, gory Halloween since 1977, when Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only first got together in New Jersey (scary!). The gang of ghouls built a legacy and legions of devoted fans with aggressive, confrontational melodies and lyrics that belied a bloody fascination with murder, monsters, B-movies and alien invasions. Danzig left in 1983, and the group was dormant until the late '90s when it re-formed with new vocalist Michael Graves and released a pair of albums. The current iteration includes Only on bass and vocals, plus original drummer Robo, and Black Flag alum Dez Cadena on guitar. They share the stage with one-man-band Scott H. Biram (pictured), who is frightening in his own way. Biram hollers hillbilly blues with a violent, near-possessed intensity, a heavily abused guitar and an amplified foot pedal, with influences that seem to include trucker speed, thrash metal, CB-radio conversations and Mississippi Fred McDowell. In 2003, Biram was hit head-on by an 18-wheeler, but a month after the accident, held together by scabs, steel pins and the power of rock, he took the stage at Austin's Continental Club in a wheelchair, with an IV dangling from his arm. Opening is Rock City Morgue, the sizzling local outfit featuring local glam-punk stars Rik Slave and Sean Yseult (of White Zombie). Tickets $21. — Fensterstock
