The Palanquin Diaries

The Palanquin Diaries: Confessions of a Mardi Gras Queen is part burlesque show, part rock show and part murder mystery, but all with a tattoo-chic attitude and a risquŽ edge. A Mardi Gras queen is dead, and to find her killer, police thumb through her diary. Each page uncovers a new suspect who performs a burlesque dance to a live band, revealing personal motives to kill the queen. Backyard Ballroom, a new Bywater theater company housed in a small converted warehouse created the show. Company co-founder and Palanquin Diaries star Otter conceived the production, which is based on her past tenure as a Mardi Gras royal and the experiences of cast members as musicians and performers. Music is performed by Otter and The Queen's Henchmen, a group of local rock musicians. Tickets $15. No one under 21 admitted. -- Emily Hohenwarter
