Jan. 29

In his 2008 book Nine Lives, former New Yorker staffer Dan Baum navigates the 40 years between hurricanes Betsy and Katrina using a nonet of diverse locals (including Kajun's Pub owner JoAnn Guidos) as his vessels. Paul Sanchez (pictured) and Colman deKay's Nine Lives, A Musical Adaptation (Vol. 1) imagines the work as a stage production and features contributions from more than 100 area musicians, who chronicle New Orleans' myriad musical personalities from jazz and R&B to funk, rock and hip-hop. Baum and Guidos will attend. Free admission. 8 p.m. Saturday. Kajun's Pub, 2256 St. Claude Ave,.947-3735; www.kajunpub.com
