When Gambit Weekly returned to the streets with our Nov. 1 issue, our focus was on helping the city recover from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and informing our readers of what businesses, entertainment venues and other aspects of normal life had or were returning. We have had numerous requests, however, for results of the Best of New Orleans® readers survey. The Aug. 30 issue was packed with information about the winners, essays and favorite picks of our writers and more.
This week and next we will present an abbreviated version of our annual Best of New Orleans® issue, beginning this week with the winners in the categories of Food & Restaurants and Goods & Services. Next week we will feature the winners in the categories of Entertainment & Nightlife, Politics and Local Life. We congratulate the winners and we thank all our readers who shared their favorites with us.
Meanwhile, many readers have called wanting to know how they can get the entire Best of New Orleans® issue, complete with essays, photos and descriptions of the winners and runners-up. Ironically, that issue has become a final snapshot of all that was "best" about our city immediately before Katrina. For us, it has also become a commemoration of the New Orleans we all knew and loved. Copies are now available for $10 including postage and handling. Bundles of 25 are $160 including local delivery. Call 830-3478 to place your order. All proceeds benefit The Foundation for Entertainment Development and Education, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created in 1990 to fund projects and programs that acknowledge the profound importance of the performing arts to the culture and economy of the New Orleans area.
