Ira Arthell Neighbors Summer Teen Docent Program received a 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award presented by first lady Michelle Obama last month. The honor came from the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The Louisiana Long Term Care Foundation awarded 17 nursing scholarships of $500 or more to nurses working in long-term care facilities. Recipients include Danae Ancar, Sheneria Broussard, Natasha Cabarubio, Rochelle Cousin-Batiste, Brittany Evans, Taviontae Farris, Ekhara Freeman-Sturkey, Meagan French, Jennifer Gaspard, Allyson Gunn, Joshua Issac, Julie James, Tanya January, Portia Lyons, Mona Miles, Sinitra Tillman and Shannon Williams.
Grover Norquist, founder of Americans for Tax Reform, doubled down on former Gov. Bobby Jindal's failed tax policies as the Louisiana Legislature looked for solutions to the state's fiscal crisis. Norquist and his "no taxes" pledge exacerbated that crisis. On March 9, Norquist wrote on Twitter that Gov. John Bel Edwards "lied his way into office. Like Clinton. Like Obama." He also wrote that Edwards "blames taxpayers and says 'pay up peasants.'"
