Tracing African-American Foodways

Culinary historian and cookbook author Jessica Harris (www.africooks.com) will speak about African-American food culture Thursday, June 14, at the Cabildo (701 Chartres St., 568-6968; www.crt.state.la.us), one of the historic buildings on Jackson Square run by the Louisiana State Museum. The talk is based on her latest book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America, which traces African influences on American cooking from the 17th-century slave trade to the present. Thursday's event begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
