Outstanding achievements in classical music, opera and dance will be recognized at the 16th annual Tribute to the Classical Arts luncheon Tuesday, March 9 at the Hotel Monteleone. Angela Hill of WWL-TV hosts the ceremonies, and there will be performances by nominated artists. John Ware (pictured), conductor of the Concert Choir and Opera Theater at Xavier University since 1995, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ware's guidance has led many students into graduate programs and careers in music. One of his students, soprano Dara Rahming, will sing "Give Me Jesus" and "Ride Up in the Chariot" at the event. Other special presentations include an Arts Education Award for the New Orleans Piano Institute and a Special Recognition Award for Delta Festival Ballet. The event is sponsored by Gambit, John and Anne Burr, Hall Piano Company, Uptown Costume & Dancewear, Coleman E. Adler & Sons and WWNO-FM.
