New Orleans Sicilian restaurant Cibugnu to close and turn into 709 Events

Sicilian restaurant Cibugnu (709 St. Charles Ave., 504-558-8990; www.cibugnu.com) closed, and the owners will turn it into an event space called 709 Events. It will be available for pop-ups, holiday parties and wedding receptions.

The restaurant opened two years ago and saw several chef and management changes. Managing partner Hillary Barq and chef Nick Vella took over the space in June, turning out rustic Italian dishes with a strong Sicilian influence, including handmade pastas and thin-crust pizzas.
