Unwatchable: New Work by John Waters

John Waters' name is eternally linked with his most famous film, Pink Flamingoes, which thrust the late actor/actress Divine into the stratosphere of stardom. Best known as a filmmaker, he is also a photographer whose images suggest movie stills that elevate bad taste to an art form. He says: "I took my little movie photographs for years without telling anyone. I took hundreds off the TV, blundering my way into photography the way I blundered into films, until I finally produced the stills I wanted. It's called Unwatchable, which is the meanest thing you can say in the movie business. But images that you can't watch in a movie -- in a gallery, you don't watch them, you see them." Waters will be at the opening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, and will lead a walkthrough at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. -- D. Eric Bookhardt
