Rebuilding Together New Orleans (RTNO) wants to put businesses to work this October. RTNO seeks local corporations and organizations to put together volunteer teams for a community building project, which will help reconstruct homes in seven New Orleans neighborhoods over the course of two weekends (Oct. 2-3 and Oct. 9-10). Last year, RTNO recruited 651 volunteers and completed 14,000 hours of work valued at $255,000. RTNO hopes to up the ante this year and recruit at least 32 teams with 800 volunteers.
RTNO, a program of the Preservation Resource Center, maintains that "the greenest house is one already built," and builders rely on salvaged materials, energy-efficient and EnergyStar-rated appliances, radiant-barrier technology and other environmentally responsible building techniques. Companies, organizations or individuals interested in sponsoring or participating in the October event should call Jon Skvarka at 636-3060 or email email@example.com for details.
