What are “empty calories”?

There are plenty of foods that contain “empty” calories. These are calories that are consumed, but have zero benefit to the body. In other words, they contain no nutrients but they will affect your weight in a negative way. The majority of the foods we eat should provide our bodies with energy and balanced nutrition. Common empty calorie foods are the junk foods such as sodas, cookies, chips, desserts and candy. Evaluate how often you are consuming these “empty calorie” foods, and eliminate or replace as often as possible.
