This Super Tuscan blend of 50 percent sangiovese and 50 percent merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah stands up to competitors costing two and three times more. The Tua Rita estate was founded 32 years ago in Suvereto, a hilltop village in Tuscany's Livorno province south of Bolgheri. The winery is 330 feet above sea level with 25 acres of vineyards planted on clay, sand, pebbles and silty soils. In the cellar, grapes were gently pressed, fermented 15 days in stainless steel tanks and spent an additional 20 days macerating. The wine was divided into 3-year-old French barriques and stainless steel tanks for three months. In the glass, it offers intense aromatics of blackberry, currants and cassis with hints of leather and cedar. On the palate, taste black cherry, plum, herbal notes, sweet spice, acidity and integrated tannins. Decant one hour before serving.
