Wine of the Week

The Barbera grape from Barbera d'Alba, often considered the coarse cousin of the more notable, noble Nebbiolo, has improved its reputation through better site selection, smaller production, and careful aging. The result is a wine of greater concentration and more body than grapes from the larger, adjacent Barbera d'Asti district. This wine offers the classic black cherry aromas with nuances of cedar followed by rich, fully ripened black fruit flavors with a vibrancy derived from the grape's high natural acidity. Aged 15 months in French oak. Enjoy with veal dishes, red sauces and pasta, roast chicken and other hearty fare. Available at Elio's Wine Warehouse, Covington IGA and on wine lists at Andrea's, Arnaud's, Irene's Cuisine, Eleven 79, Carmelo's, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, Palace Cafe and La Riviera.
