Wine of the Week

The Central Coast area, which runs along the Pacific Ocean from just below San Francisco Bay to Santa Barbara, is known to favor Pinot Noir grapes, yet offers a wide range of microclimates and terrain. The northern part -- specifically the Salinas Valley -- is actually warmer than the southern area, and well-suited to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine offers blackberry, ripe plum and a touch of oak on the nose with dark fruit flavors on the palate. Good with hearty soups, pasta dishes, grilled beef, veal chops and pork roast. Available at most Winn-Dixie locations, Robert's Fresh Market on Robert E. Lee Boulevard and West Esplanade Avenue, Meme's Market, Dorignac's, Breaux Mart on Severn Avenue, Foodies in Metairie, and, on the Northshore, Wine Down and Acquistapace's Covington Super Market.
