Wine of the Week

The Gironde River, fed by the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, cuts a wide swath through the huge land mass of Bordeaux on its path to the Atlantic. Of the many sub-regions Bordeaux encompasses, St. Emilion is both an enchanting medieval walled village as well as a region of wines produced primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This wine, a blend of 80 percent Merlot and 20 percent Cabernet Franc, offers violets, cedar and dark berry aromas with blackberry and black currant fruit flavors and well-integrated tannins. Splash decant now or cellar. Good with steak and roast duck. Available at The Wine Seller, Whole Foods Market (Uptown location) and Bacchanal. (Store listings current at press time.)
