"Toad," the nickname actor-comedian Robin Williams gave his brother Todd when they were kids, stuck – so when Todd opened a winery, he kept the moniker and Toad Hollow Vineyards was born. Working with a growers' co-op in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France, Williams developed a new line of low-cost, quality wines to match a specific style and flavor profile. Aged four months in French oak, this 100 percent Syrah offers dark fruit aromas, a hint of violets and an earthy quality with smooth black cherry on the palate and a slight steminess. Best splash decanted. Good with roast duck, red beans, hearty pasta dishes, lamb stew and pork tenderloin.
