Wine of the Week

Grapes for Austria's sensationally successful wine export, Gruner Veltliner (called ÒGroo-VeeÓ by the hip crowd), cover more acreage in the country than any other varietal. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Weinviertel area in Lower Austria, about an hourÕs drive north of Vienna. Straw-colored, this crisp, vibrant dry wine offers light fruit, floral and spicy aromas with citrus, a bit of mineralilty and white pepper on the palate. Ages gracefully, showing honeyed flavors as it matures. Drink now and over the next five to seven years. Try it chilled with crunchy fried chicken or Asian cuisine. Where to buy it: The Wine Seller, Sip Wine Market and Bacchanal. Where to drink it: La Cote Brasserie, Orleans Grapevine, The Rib Room, Table One and the Bridge Lounge. (Listings current at press time.)
